Background
Pharos Generators was appointed to deliver a backup power solution for a new facility in Cambridge, working alongside Ceetech (an RSK company). The project required a highly reliable system to support critical areas of the building, including holding cells and the main armoury, where uninterrupted power is essential for safety and security.
Installation
To meet the site’s demands, Pharos installed a Baudouin 12M33G8D3/5 generator with a capacity of 1375 kVA, supported by a 21,000-litre separate white diesel fuel tank. The installation also included a load bank connection point and a cable link box, ensuring flexibility, testing capability and long-term reliability of the system.
Project challenges and solutions
The project presented several challenges from the outset, including cable calculation issues, site delays and design flaws inherited from an earlier stage.
After taking over project management, James Bennett worked closely with Ceetech to review and refine the design. Through close collaboration, we were able to resolve significant issues and keep the project moving forward.
Pharos successfully delivered a dependable backup power system. All site attendance requirements were met promptly and the final installation provides critical resilience for the facility’s most important operations.
